How Roblox is Supporting the Presidential AI Challenge
Inspiring Students and Educators to Solve Problems With AI
Roblox is proud to support the Presidential AI Challenge, a new initiative designed to inspire young people and educators to create AI-based solutions to help make progress on community challenges across the United States. The challenge features teams of students and supervising adults competing across three tracks, with an opportunity to showcase their solutions at a national level. We’ve been inspired by the boundless imagination of creators on Roblox, and we can’t wait to see what participants dream up using Roblox’s AI tools.
Roblox has built machine learning and AI systems and collaborated with the community on open source projects for years, with over 400 safety, personalization, and generative AI models in use to help address problems of content creation, scale, and safety. The free suite of powerful AI tools available in Roblox Studio can help participants unlock their biggest ideas for the challenge. Educators can also use our freely available curriculum, with hands-on modules that mimic real-world working environments, to help students learn the basics of game design and engineering with Roblox Studio and its AI Assistant.
The Challenge
Teams can choose one of three tracks:
-
Track I (proposal): Create an in-depth proposal for how AI technologies could be applied to address a community challenge.
-
Track II (technical/implementation): Using AI technologies, build a solution that addresses a community problem or challenge.
-
Track III (for educators only): Either 1) teach an AI concept or tool to K-12 students, or 2) explore and demonstrate how AI tools could assist in creating transformative teaching and learning experiences.

Using Roblox to Participate
Millions of developers use Roblox Studio’s comprehensive set of 3D creation tools to build experiences of all shapes and sizes. Roblox Studio offers powerful generative AI tools, including an AI Assistant with features like Code Assist and 3D object generation via Cube3D. In-depth tutorials, Assistant, and a little curiosity will help students and teachers participating in the challenge bring their ideas to life quickly.
Imagination is the only limitation, but we’ve thought of a few examples to help get participants started:
Track I Example: Roblox Recycling Obby Challenge
Recycling creates a healthier planet for ourselves and future generations, but not everyone knows what or how to recycle. Students could write a proposal for a Roblox experience, built using Assistant and the Classic Obby template, that teaches players how to collect recyclables and sort them into the correct bins.
Track II Example: Simulated Solutions
Interactive experiences can help connect people to community problems no matter where they live. Students could draw inspiration from experiences on the Roblox Learning Hub to build their own virtual worlds showcasing how their ideas could make a difference. They could use Assistant and Cube3D to design solutions for traffic jams or community green spaces, then submit a video tour of their experience explaining the problem, solution, and impact.
Track III Example: Game-Based Learning
Research has found that people learn more effectively when they’re allowed to deepen their knowledge through hands-on experiences, problem-solving, and collaboration. Educators could use Roblox’s curriculum to help groups of students learn the basics of game design and engineering with Roblox Studio and Assistant. The curriculum consists of a variety of hands-on modules that mimic real-world working environments and provide a platform for students to explore their creativity.
To get started, register for the challenge and download Roblox Studio. We can’t wait to see what everyone creates and we hope participants will share their proposals with us at education@roblox.com. We may share some of the exciting experiences on our Learning Hub or in a future post.
