Chats are filtered to block detected inappropriate content, such as discriminatory speech, bullying, extremism, violence, sexual content, as well as personal information and invitations to move the chat off the platform. Roblox is making changes to require all users to complete an age check to use chat features by the start of 2026. We will restrict chat to users in similar age groups unless they are confirmed as Trusted Connections.
If a user repeatedly attempts to send messages that the text filter detects as against the rules, Roblox will send a notification, warning them to stop. Repeated violations will lead to temporary blocks, suspensions, or bans.

We’ve implemented and open-sourced safety tools including Sentinel, an AI system for early detection of potential risk in chat conversations, and our PII Classifier, an AI model for detection of attempts to share or request personally identifiable information (PII).
