Annual Roblox Economic Impact Report

How Roblox and Creators are Driving Economic Opportunities

  • We are releasing our annual U.S. Economic Impact Report in addition to economic impact reports from around the world, underscoring our key role in a number of high-growth markets internationally.

  • Roblox is helping build the next generation of creators, contributing substantial economic impact.

  • On a global scale, Roblox is driving opportunities in areas outside of traditional tech-focused economies, reinforcing our goal of making content creation accessible from anywhere in the world.

With 111.8 million average daily active users1 (DAUs), Roblox has become the go-to destination for people of all ages to connect, learn, and play. Roblox makes content creation free and accessible to everyone, so creators come to the platform to try something new for fun, gain technical expertise, or start their own business. Our diverse community of creators has brought our platform to life by designing immersive, interactive experiences for users.

Roblox has built a significant economic ecosystem of developers, creators, and game studios. Through Roblox Studio and our Roblox Developer Exchange (DevEx) Program, Roblox creators develop and monetize immersive 3D experiences, avatars, and digital assets. From March 2024 to March 2025, Roblox creators earned over $1 billion globally, a year-over-year increase of more than 31%, through our DevEx Program. The data predates the runaway success of Grow a Garden, which helped Roblox break platform and industry records in Q2 2025. As we continue to scale, our goal is to expand economic opportunities, promote long-term ecosystem health for our creators, and further contribute to the global economy.

To enable long-term creator success, this year we’ve added new tools and features to facilitate game development and increase monetization opportunities within Roblox.

Our continued investment in creator success is reflected in the rapid growth of our top 1,000 developers, which outpaces the significant growth that we have seen in our top 10 creators.

  • In 2024, the top 1,000 developers, hailing from North America to Australia, earned an average of $820,000, up over 570% since 2019.2

  • The top 10 developers earned an average of $33.9 million, and the top 100 developers earned an average of $6 million, up over 450% and 500%, respectively, since 2019.2

As Roblox helps build the next generation of digital entrepreneurs, we are sharing our 2024 Roblox U.S. Economic Impact Report. For the first time, we are also releasing additional information on our Economic and Social Impact site about our impact in a number of high-growth markets. These global reports dive deeper into Roblox’s worldwide contributions to growing tech and game development economies.

Roblox Drives Substantial Economic Impact Across the United States

The latest U.S. Economic Impact Report, conducted by Nordicity,3 a leading economic analysis firm, highlights Roblox’s contributions to the U.S. economy, with significant impact outside of traditional tech-focused regions.4 In fact, Nordicity’s analysis shows that over the past eight years, 75% of payouts were made to creators in states without tech-focused economies. The suite of tools offered in Roblox Studio makes it easy to create games anywhere and doesn’t require advanced computer science training or even a college degree to get started.

While Roblox does not employ creators, our research estimates that between 2017 and 2024, Roblox contributed approximately 22,000 full-time job equivalents (FTEs)5 and $1.62 billion in GDP to the U.S. economy. In the same eight-year period, it is estimated that Roblox creators contributed $416 million in tax revenue. In just 2024 alone, Roblox generated a total GDP impact of $445 million, up 29% from 2023.

Roblox has lowered the barrier to entry for game creation, making it possible for creators to forge long-lasting careers on the platform. Of the U.S. creators surveyed by Nordicity, 44% of creators answered that they would not have made any interactive experiences if not for Roblox.

In the same survey, 33% of creators had never taken a formal computer science, programming, or game design class. By offering hobbyist developers a no-cost, hands-on technology and game development learning experience, Roblox has enabled numerous creators to gain not only strong technical expertise but also valuable business skills, such as leadership, product management, and creative direction.

For instance, Clarence Maximillian, founder and CEO of Maximillian Studios, started developing experiences for fun on Roblox when he was nine years old. In college, as he gained more creative and technical experience on the platform, he decided to build out a team to create a cinematic virtual universe, going door-to-door in his dorm to seek people who would get on board with his vision. He eventually recruited an audio engineer and another programmer to release Frontlines, a game known for its high-fidelity graphics and smooth gameplay that’s garnered over 169 million visits on Roblox since its launch in 2024. Now 26, Clarence is developing Frontlines Versus, a sequel to Frontlines that is now available as a demo. Maximillian Studios is just one of many examples of small businesses built with the help of Roblox.

Our Reach Extends Globally, Where We’ve Helped Define the Gaming Industry in High-Growth Markets

Given our global presence, Roblox’s economic benefits reach beyond the United States, in countries and regions such as Australia, Brazil, the U.K., and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

From 2016 to 2024 in Australia, gaming industry revenue increased 200%, reaching $223 million. Roblox was at the forefront of this rapid development, becoming the most popular immersive gaming and creation platform in the country, with a $30.7 million contribution to the country’s GDP from 2019 to 2024. In Australia, Roblox saw an 85% cumulative growth in DAU from Q4 2020 to Q4 2024 and increased the number of eligible creators that received payouts from Roblox by seven times in the same period.

In Brazil, a top global gaming market, Roblox has emerged as a leading platform, with DAUs growing 181% in Brazil from Q4 2020 to Q4 2024. In the same period, there was a 12-fold increase in the number of eligible creators who received payouts from Roblox. In 2024, Roblox contributed an estimated GDP impact of $26.4 million.

Across the MENA region, Roblox generated an estimated $15 million to the aggregated GDP of five MENA countries: Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) between Q3 2021 and Q3 2024. The number of FTEs supported by Roblox in these countries has grown 30% year-over-year. Roblox has also supported countless export opportunities to promote games and creations by local developers, such as UAE-based @Cryptic_Desire, who received more than 30 million orders in clothing sales.

In the U.K., Roblox has generated an estimated £306.4 million in total gross value added (GVA), while supporting 5,200 FTEs, from 2017 to 2024. In 2024, Roblox contributed £68 million to total GVA, a five-fold increase since 2019.

Roblox has created numerous opportunities in regions outside of traditional tech-focused economies in the U.K. Approximately 70% of U.K. Roblox creators are located outside of London and the South East, including in regions like the West Midlands, Yorkshire, the South West, and Wales. In these regions, Roblox’s share of creators is at least double the share of developers in the wider gaming industry. While the broader gaming industry concentrates its resources around major studios, Roblox continues to support and uplift individual developers. Simon Burgess, a developer from Blackpool who created SharkBite, one of Roblox’s biggest franchises, joined Roblox in 2009, when he was 12 years old, and credits Roblox’s free infrastructure with making his career possible. “For devs who are just starting out, it’s hard to pay for data storage, data hosting, game engine, server hosting,” Burgess said. “Roblox really gives you everything.”

Roblox is dedicated to continuing to provide creators with the resources they need to build anything they can imagine. From individual developers to game studios, our platform helps support entrepreneurial growth around the globe, and we are constantly working on new tools and features to help our community turn their imagination into immersive shared experiences and real-world impact.

2 In Robux spent. Our creator ecosystem includes many hobbyists. Of the millions of creators monetizing on Roblox, more than 24,500 are part of our DevEx Program, with the median creator participating in the DevEx Program receiving $1,575 USD during the 12 months ended December 31, 2024.

3 Nordicity conducted the U.S. and U.K. Economic Impact Reports. Access Partnership conducted the other international economic impact reports.

4 The phrase “tech-focused economies” refers to states with a location quotient of more than 1.1. In other words, any state that has a concentration of tech jobs that is more than 10% greater than the overall national percentage of tech jobs is considered a tech-focused economy.

5 Roblox does not employ developers. Full-time job equivalents are calculated on a cumulative basis in person years, based on direct, indirect, and induced impact, and the average wage in the relevant locale.

6 Developers must be at least 13 years of age or older to participate in the DevEx Program and earn on Roblox. See Terms of Use.
