Roblox Trust & Safety Advisory Board

We are dedicated to working together with parents and digital safety experts to promote a family-friendly environment that allows all players to imagine, create, and play online. As part of our commitment to community safety, Roblox has formed a Trust & Safety Advisory Board comprised of world-renowned digital safety authorities. We collaborate with the following board members to create a safe and enjoyable environment for kids of all ages.

  • Larry Magid,

    Co-Founder & CEO, ConnectSafely

    Larry Magid, Ed.D. is the CEO and co-founder of ConnectSafely.org, a Silicon Valley, California-based nonprofit organization dedicated to educating users of connected technology about safety, privacy, and security. A syndicated columnist and radio commentator for over two decades, Magid is a leading expert on internet safety and technology. He also founded two popular internet safety sites, SafeKids.com and SafeTeens.com and is the author of several parents and educators guides for ConnectSafely.

  • Stephen Balkam,

    Founder & CEO, FOSI

    Stephen Balkam is the Founder & CEO of the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI), an international, nonprofit organization headquartered in Washington, DC. FOSI’s mission is to make the online world safer for kids and their families. FOSI convenes the top thinkers and practitioners in government, industry, and the nonprofit sectors to collaborate and innovate and to create a “culture of responsibility” in the online world. 

  • Shai Samet,

    Founder & President of kidSAFE

    Shai Samet is the Founder and President of the kidSAFE Seal Program, a global independent safety certification service and seal-of-approval program designed exclusively for children-friendly websites and technologies. Many well-known brands around the world are members of the program. An experienced and award-winning privacy consultant and father of five, Samet is a frequent speaker on topics related to online privacy and safety, social networking, virtual gaming (AR/VR), targeted advertising, Internet-connected toys, and many other cutting-edge digital safety issues.

  • Laura Higgins,

    Online Safety Operations Manager

    Laura Higgins is the Online Safety Operations Manager at the South West Grid for Learning (SWGfL), where she manages the Professionals Online Safety Helpline (POSH). POSH is a support service for the children’s workforce in the UK, providing advice about all online and digital safety issues affecting children. The helpline is delivered as part of the UK Safer Internet Centre, a partnership of three leading organizations: SWGfL, Childnet International, and Internet Watch Foundation, with one mission – to promote the safe and responsible use of technology for young people.

Safety Features

We continually develop new and innovative technologies to ensure the Roblox platform remains a safe and fun space for players all over the world. 

  • Chat Filters

    Roblox uses a combination of chat filters, both human and software moderation, to proactively remove inappropriate content from the platform.

  • Customizable Parental Controls

    Parents can limit or disable online chat capabilities and restrict access to a curated list of age‑appropriate games.

  • Avatar Clothing Detection

    An automated detection feature ensures that all players are wearing appropriate attire within the avatar editor and avatar thumbnails.

  • Reporting System

    Players can report inappropriate chat messages or content by using our Report Abuse system, which is located throughout the site and in-game.

Privacy

Roblox is a member in the kidSAFE Seal Program, which has been approved by the Federal Trade Commission as an authorized safe harbor under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We are committed to complying with COPPA to ensure the privacy of our users under the age of 13 and implementing reasonable measures to prevent them from sharing personal information via chat messages or in-game. In addition, Roblox is committed to compliance with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which provides a set of standardized data protection laws across all European Union member countries.
