Formulaic Compensation and Continuous Progression System
Fair and Formulaic Compensation
At Roblox, fairness is built into our compensation model. We follow a fully formulaic approach—employees in the same role, level, location, and performance category receive identical pay. This “equal pay for equal work” structure removes ambiguity and ensures that compensation is tied directly to measurable impact.
A Deep Commitment to Pay Equity
Equity isn’t just a principle—it’s a practice. We regularly analyze compensation data to inform our pay practices and identify any potential disparities based on gender or race. In the years we have performed reviews, we did not identify any statistically significant gaps. We regularly review our compensation practices, in terms of both our overall workforce and individual employees, and we benchmark and set pay targets based on relevant market data, considering factors such as an employee’s role, level, location, and performance. We also compute our compensation outcomes using a formulaic approach, which we believe leads to more equitable outcomes.
Continuous Progression
In 2023, Roblox transitioned from a traditional job-level promotion system to a continuous growth and progression model. Our goal was to build a system that rewards and recognizes each step of a career journey, continually expanding scope, breadth, and depth, to drive innovation and better develop the future leaders of our company. In the continuous progression model, employees have a contribution level from 1 to 36, and contribution levels are directly tied to compensation.
Our progression system provides more frequent compensation adjustments, allowing employees to grow continuously and receive rewards in line with their contributions.
This shift reflects our desire to encourage and recognize employees for ongoing career advancements and sustained contributions to Roblox’s success. We believe this creates an industry-leading pay-for-performance compensation model.
Quarterly Equity Refresh and Recognition
Nimble Equity System
Our unique quarterly refresh equity program provides consistent equity awards that align with market conditions. Eligible employees’ refresh equity target is based on their performance and divided into four grants to minimize the effects of market volatility. These quarterly refresh grants ensure more frequent alignment to our stock price while rewarding performance more frequently than through onetime annual grants.
Roblox Recognition Program
To complement our formulaic compensation and continuous progression system, we recently launched the Roblox Recognition Award, providing leaders across Roblox a discretionary lever to recognize exemplary impact. This equity award is designed for employees who demonstrate impact that goes above and beyond the expectations of their level.
Proactive Benefits
Roblox prioritizes proactive solutions to help employees achieve health, wealth, and happiness. While many companies focus on benefits aimed at keeping employees healthy and providing support after a chronic condition diagnosis, Roblox emphasizes benefits that enable employees to achieve sustained peak performance beyond a healthy baseline.
Health Measurement
Roblox provides onsite biometric screenings, onsite DEXA scans, and coverage for wearable devices to equip employees with detailed insights into their health. These assessments allow for baseline and progress measurement, help facilitate informed decision-making, and promote personalized care.
Nutrition
Drawing on the knowledge of nutritionists, industry experts, and scientific research, Roblox developed a nutritional philosophy that guides our onsite food program. This includes breakfast, lunch, snacks, and beverages. The nutrition philosophy focuses on Good Energy and Whole Foods to recognize food that promotes optimal metabolic health, higher nutrients, and minimal processing. The nutrition philosophy also commits the onsite culinary team to healthy cooking standards, employee engagement, nutrition education, and sustainability.
Movement
Learning optimal habits and remaining accountable to a plan is paramount. Roblox offers comprehensive onsite and virtual one-on-one health coaching. Health coaches create personalized plans for employees based on their individual priorities and key focus areas, and they establish checkpoints and progress metrics as employees track toward their goals. Not only specializing in fitness and movement, coaches can advise on nutrition and recovery for a holistic approach to health and well-being.
Mental and Emotional Health
Roblox provides 25 covered mental health coaching and/or therapy sessions per year per person (employees and their dependents alike). These sessions can address topics including resilience, stress management, and other areas crucial for mental well-being.
