Roblox Announces Teen Council to Champion Civility and Digital Well-Being

Today we announced our inaugural Teen Council, a key part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a safe and positive online environment. Launching in March 2025, Roblox’s Teen Council will bring together up to 15 teens, ages 14 to 17, from across the United States to serve as advocates for digital well-being and advisers on civility.

This initiative is part of Roblox’s broader Youth Engagement Program, continuing the work that began with a series of Civility Innovation Workshops in collaboration with Boston Children’s Digital Wellness Lab. The Teen Council will provide a platform for young people to share their insights and contribute to shaping the future of online safety and civility.

“Roblox has always been driven by the voices of our community, and the Teen Council is a natural extension of that commitment. We believe that empowering teens to take a more active role in shaping the digital world will help foster a culture of civility and respect across the platform that is authentic and relevant,” said Tami Bhaumik, Vice President of Civility & Partnerships at Roblox.

The Teen Council will collaborate with Roblox’s internal teams, offering its their perspectives on platform features, policies, and resources. Council members will also gain valuable skills in communication, critical thinking, and community building while developing a deeper understanding of online civility. Roblox will empower council members to become leaders in online safety and to champion digital well-being among other teens. Through engaging these young leaders, Roblox aims to help ensure that our platform continues to be a place where people can have safe, creative, and positive experiences.

“In a recent survey we conducted with 530 teens in the U.S., 87% of respondents agreed that gaming is important to helping them improve their mental well-being,”¹ said Andres Cuervo, Youth Engagement Program Manager at Roblox. “This is why we’re calling on all young people who share our passion for building community and a positive and inclusive online world.”

Applications for the five-month pilot program open today, and the program will run from March to July 2025. Teens 14 to 17 years old can apply now for the chance to collaborate with Roblox teams, develop leadership skills, and advocate for civility online. Applications are due by December 6, 2024.
